Matt the Legend

Matt the Legend

Sunflower seeds were my favorite, as a matter of fact, every single game I would probably go through at least two packs. Just watch and eat, and maybe cheer if our school actually gets a touchdown, but that was rare. Football isn’t my sport of choice, but I decided ‘why not? You’re a senior, and it’s your last chance to do anything fun.’ Big mistake. The only “fun” part about the games were the food, and endless amount of free sunflower seeds- my buddy always snuck them to me through the back door since he worked at the concession stand.

But anyways, I’m just sitting there, and all of the sudden, an idea hits me square in the head. My friends always tell me to be more daring, and less conserved, why not show them how un-conserved I really am. So I race back to the car, grab my coat and hurry into the bathroom, where I undress into nothing but my boxers and coat. In the process I realize how nervous I am. “This is ridiculous, Matt.” I say out loud to myself. I take a moment to grasp myself, so I think back to what I had told myself before, “You’re a senior, and it’s your last chance to do anything fun.” I find it within myself to that first foot forward, and after that, I break into a sprint, crashing out of the boy’s room and towards the field.

Once reached, I hop over the fence and release my coat, revealing my blue boxers with pink coyotes on the. I don’t dare look back at the stunned administration, preparing to jump into a race with the half naked boy running through the football game, but I do look at the crowd, all of which are cheering at the top of their lungs for that same boy, and that boy is me. I find myself joining them and raise my arms in triumph.

I reach the end of the field, and am abruptly stopped about ten feet from the gate by what feels like a brick wall, but really is just a rather large police officer. I fall back, almost air born, and land on my back. The officer wastes no time to put me in handcuffs, but is careful not to make it awkward. They rush me past the large cheering crowd of students back to their squad car where I am read my rights and taken to the police station.

I’m not the most intimidating one there, that’s for sure, but even the sketchy people don’t want to look at the skinny white kid in his blue and pink boxer shorts. When I’m aloud to use the telephone, the only person I could think to call was my mom, but I knew for sure I was dead as soon as I did. But, it’s better than spending a half naked night in jail with who knows. So I do and as expected I am.

On the way home, I reminded countless times about how much trouble I’m actually in. But it didn’t matter, it was all worth it, because I will never forget the screaming crowd screaming my name, and neither will they.
